IMPORTANT
NEWS!
Effective January 1, 2008 there will be new Document Formatting
Standards.
Please click
here to see the new standards. These
Standards were adopted by the MA Registers and Assistant
Registers of Deeds Association to try and standardized
document-formatting practices across the Commonwealth.
Unfortunately, because of the different computer systems
utilized by the Commonwealth's Registries, complete
standardization is not possible at this time.
Notes Regarding the
Standards:
1) Standard Number 3 prohibits double-sided
documents.
Please advise any attorneys, law firms, lenders or
others that currently produce double-sided documents of this
new standard to avoid recording problems in the future.
2) At this
time, Standard Numbers 7 & 8 do not affect documents being
recorded at the Essex South Registry of Deeds due to the
Registry's current computer system.
It
is the Essex South Registry's hope that this advanced notice
will allow entities that are affected by these changes, the
time to implement them and avoid any unnecessary delays with
their recordings.

The
Southern Essex District Registry of Deeds in Salem, Massachusetts traces the
ownership of land for 30 communities on Boston's North Shore.
Essex County was established in an era when land could be - and
often was – purchased for a few head of cattle and some grain.
In fact, Registry records date back to 1639. Today, our focus
is on the future as we integrate systems and take advantage
of newer technologies to better serve our customers. In keeping
with this commitment, we are proud to be the first deeds office
to provide both document images and indices for public viewing
on the World Wide Web 24 hours a day - free of charge.
This website is designed to offer convenient and easy access
to the Registry's resources and services. We welcome you to
search our deed indices and images, visit our archives or get
in touch with a representative.
Please also see our list of Registry services, answers to FAQ's
(frequently asked questions), a brief history of the the Registry’s
accomplishments, and the latest news.
